Angus Simmental X
Marshall, an Angus Simmental, was born on March 11, 2025. At weigh-in, he was a stubborn 610 pounds! Marshall and I maybe got off on the wrong foot, as becoming his friend was more of a challenge than I thought would be, but like anything in the world, practice makes improvement. Marshall now looks forward to seeing me, and always says goodbye.
Marshall loves to run in the pasture, often racing his friends to see who can get to the hay bale first. He's not one for exploring different areas of the barn, content to stay out in the field while I get his feed ready for him. I've never had to worry about Marshall gaining weight, because he makes sure to get as much feed as there is in the trough.
Halter breaking Marshall tested a new level of patience in me, as he didn't freak out or fight back when haltered, he just stood there. The hardest part was physically putting the halter on, which often led to pushing him into a small, fixed pen, specifically for haltering. Now, after months of working on this, he is much more tolerant of the halter.
After school and on weekends is when I work with him and use the show stick, which he loves, to work on footing and the correct stance for the show ring.
