This Is Clifford, My Hereford X

About Clifford

Herford  X

Clifford, a Hereford X, was born on January 23, 2024. At weigh-in, he was a stubborn 650 pounds! Despite his size, he’s gentle, lovable, and sweet-natured, showing no aggression even in stressful situations. Training and caring for him has been an amazing experience, and I’m proud to be bringing him to the county fair as my own steer.

Clifford does well with other livestock animals, and enjoys playing in the pasture with his heifer friends. He’s extremely curious and always wants to know what’s going on inside the barn. While he may not be the smartest, he sure knows how to eat. He is a slow eater who often likes to stand in his feed bowl to ensure maximum consumption of his food.

Halter Breaking and Training

The halter-breaking process was mostly painless, as he understood that it would come off in the end. The first few days were rough, lots of confusion shown as anger but that fizzled out as he quickly got used to the feeling of having a halter put on him.

I work with him on weekends and most days after school so he continues to become more comfortable with the halter and with walking next to me. We've also begun to work on correct posturing and he is coming along nicely and cooperates most of the time.
