Benefits For Buyers

For businesses, purchasing livestock from students at county fairs can be both a supportive gesture and a financial advantage.

One major benefit is the tax write-off; the cost of purchasing livestock from students like me can be classified as a business expense, which is generally tax-deductible. For instance, if a company buys an animal to support local agriculture or as part of a marketing effort, the expense can be seen as promotional or charitable, effectively reducing taxable income. Additionally, handing out "add-ons" (extra financial support or sponsorship) can be a huge help to showmen and, if the animal is a chapter animal, it also benefits the club.

For chapter animals, all proceeds go back to the club, which helps fund the budget for the next year, allowing for more projects and opportunities for members.

Benefits For The Community

Purchasing from students is good for business too, as it puts the statement out that you are willing to participate and contribute to your community. Buying helps the farmer, boosts their production and confidence, as well as business. Buying from local sellers allows the business to broaden their networking and community to bring in more connections, that will help everyone. It also benefits the students in ways that it gives them financial support, either to show their animal again, help finance a vehicle, or schooling that gets them to their career goals. Another way it helps the student is that it’s extremely validating. Receiving a check for all the hard work and time put into the project is recognition and it can encourage students to continue to pursue a path in agriculture.
